Council Matters

President Jean Foss reported that the Board met in executive session in December and that positive progress is being made toward the land purchase, but nothing more may be said at this time. More information may be available at the Town Meeting on January 10th.

Heidi Shaner invited Council members to “Try It Out Tuesday” on January 3rd, and thanked groups for volunteering to provide cookies.

LaDelle Irvine asked that everyone who volunteers at the Center or in the community on Martin Luther King Day let her know so that we can record the enormous contribution to the community made by Center members.

Nancy Grimm, of the Nominating Committee (with Mary Bryant and Ada Jones) reported that all people now serving as officers have expressed a willingness to continue. They are Jean Foss, President; Pat Cook, Vice-President; Marilyn Lutz, Recording Secretary; and Marion Turk, Corresponding Secretary. Other nominations are welcome and names should be submitted to the committee.

In a discussion of ways to enhance programs, Brenda Steigman noted that the Canasta group raffled three cakes at it’s holiday party to raise money for membership scholarships. The $102 raised was more than enough for one scholarship.

Dawn Schultz shared that “All Things Digital” passes a bowl at each meeting for contributions to help pay for their programs.

Liz Benzinger read a letter from Kate Rosenfield, who attended last month’s meeting. She expressed a desire to increase diversity at the Center and the letter was forwarded to Margaret Fitch, Program Coordinator.

Next Council meeting is Monday, February 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.

Council meetings occur on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Board Room.
