The 1180 Society

Named in honor of the home we built together at 1180 Pepsi Place, The 1180 Society is a circle of philanthropic leaders who have made outstanding personal commitments to the mission of the Senior Center. Through their leadership with an annual gift of $1,180 or more, members of the 1180 Society are a driving force behind our programs. Here is a story of two of our 41 Founding Circle members of The 1180 Society.

Lowell and Abbie Bishop

Lowell and Abbie Bishop first joined the Center in 1994, but with busy lives, they allowed their membership to lapse soon thereafter. They rejoined during the summer of 1996, immediately becoming active in our Party Bridge group. They joined the new Center Wine Club when it began this summer where Abbie became its first Secretary.

Service to others has always been a core to their lives. Abbie is an Oblate in the Order of Julian of Norwich, an Episcopal Order that holds prayer, reconciliation, and service at its core. Lowell, in addition to being a long time leader at the Church of Our Saviour, has also volunteered for years with Habitat for Humanity.

The Bishops enjoy the community that the Center provides. At the first Center Wine Club meeting in June, Lowell was delighted to reconnect with a long-time friend whom he hadn't seen in over twenty years. They had been Boy Scout leaders together and had lost touch with each other before the Center provided their chance meeting.

Charter members of The 1180 Society when it was founded in 2007, the Bishops have already renewed their 1180 Society membership this year noting, "Service and philanthropy go hand in hand and is a natural fit for us; we particularly appreciate that the Center is accessible to all people regardless of their background or socio-economic status".
