Albemarle County Fair Senior Handiwork Competition
Congratulations
to all our incredibly talented members who submitted items for the
Albemarle County Fair! 33 members entered 48 items in the Senior Handiwork
Competition and 11 items in the Open Classes. 38 of the 59 items came back
with ribbons!
1st Place and Best in Show honors went to Ingeborg Bilezerian for her
crocheted pineapple pattern in light green cotton; to Luther Gore for his
oil paining entitled “Commuters”; and to Helen Counsell for her ceramic
Bubble Vase.
There were 16 other 1st Place Ribbon winners. Dick Carpenter for his
mixed media work “Garden Bench Gossip” and his charcoal piece, “Photo Op”;
Luther Gore for his colored pencil drawing “Falcon”; Lorraine Momper for
her pastel “Sunflowers”; Marjorie Mallast for her watercolor “Waiting
Wren”; Jerry Pusey for his woodcarving “Spiral on Base”; Olivia Klein for
her ceramic “Turkey”; Peggy Aglubat for her knitted red dish cloth with
Michigan Cherries; Jeannette Charlton for her UVA Soccer toddler sweater &
hat; as well as her baby blanket in green eco friendly yarn; Peggy Harris
for her knitted adult cap in purples & grey; Ann Neumark for the throw
pillow she made for the Salvation Army Transitional Housing Unit from
remnants of, and to coordinate with, our curtain project; Dottie Coleman
for a crocheted afghan in green, ivory and pink; Pat Ford for an appliqué
quilt in overall Sam design as well as her fleece jacket with flannel
lining; and John Schoderbek for his ceramic Duck.
There were 11 Second Place Ribbon winners. Peggy Aglubat for her blue & grey
knitted scarf; Jeannette Charlton for a knitted bag in brown eco-friendly
yarn; Marge Haugen for her knitted Baby Ball; Judith Fike for her oil
painting “Lemons & Pitcher” as well as her pencil drawing “3 Pears” and
her mixed media work “Red Tulips”; Sid Spain for his watercolor “Full
Breeze”; James Huckstep for his wooden carved “Eagle”; Helen Counsell for
her ceramic “Chinese Vase”; Dona McMullen for her ceramic Luncheon Plate;
and Pat Ford for her crocheted baby blanket and cap in green shell
pattern.
There were 8 Third Place Ribbon winners. Felicia Nanartowicz for her knitted scarf
hat & mittens in multicolored pink; Pat Ford for her Teddy Bear; Rosemary
Balister for her red knitted pillow; Joy Claibourn for her ceramic Turtle;
Albert Crittenden for his woodcarving “Knot”; Marjorie Mallast for her
acrylic “Yurk’s Cap”; Barbara Stark for her ceramic Strawberry Plate; and
Marion Hansen for her watercolor “Grapes on Stem”.
