Cyber Warfare
Monthly Meeting is Monday, September 13,
1:00 p.m.
UVA Associate Professor of Politics John M. Owen, IV, who
specializes in International Relations, will talk about Cyber
Warfare and Cyber Jihad: how government agents and
others have in the past, and may in the future, hack into
national computer systems as a weapon of war. Cyber warriors
want to destroy, but cyber spies need networks to stay functional to
gather intelligence. What is the threat and is
it as great as some would have us believe? Join us to
hear Professor Owen give us an assessment of the dangers we face
now, and may face in the future. Refreshments will
be available after the
presentation.

Facebook Workshop CHANGE
Sunday, September 12, 2:00 - 3:30
p.m.
The Computer Users Group will conduct a workshop where you can
bring your laptops and create your own Facebook account. If you don't have a laptop, you can use a computer in
the Computer Center where the workshop will be held.
You will learn the various security settings and what they mean for
you and your "friends." There are ways to find people and
request that they be your friend so that you can share your thoughts
with them and find out what they are doing. Find out about the
Facebook Wall, news feeds and Facebook messages. This workshop
will be lead by Todd Wickersty who, in 2005, founded Business Bullpen, a website
and print brochure design business. The workshop is limited to
about 12, so sign up at the front desk and provide your email
address, or email
. Let him know if you will bring a
laptop. |
Engineering/Robotics Themed Caribbean Cruise
The Senior Center Travel Office has arranged for seminars and
tours on Robotics and Ship Engineering, Design and Technology. There
will be some exciting and informative classes presented by experts in
their field and tours of the ship by crew members. The complete
cruise stops at Haiti, Jamacia, Grand Cayman, Mexico, and back to
Cape Canaveral where the trip also starts. So one can cruise with a
“significant other” who can then go to the spa, participate in an art
auction, watch a sea circus, go swimming, ice skating and all the
other things one normally does on a top of the line cruise, while
the CUG spouse is learning about the ship's technology. Plus in the
evenings there are Broadway-class shows to watch, a fitness center,
flat screened TV, and a whole lot more.
Let's consider
getting a group of CUG members to share this exciting trip. Let Dawn
know if you are interested -- without a commitment. This trip is for April
2011. Linda, of the Travel Office, would like to have reservations by
September 14th so she can confirm the cabins she has reserved. Click
here for more information.
