The Kingfishers are a co-ed group of members who like to fish, and
have talent from novice to expert. They meet in the Senior Center at 10
a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month (except July and August) to
share information about fishing and for skill development and fun. There
is usually a guest speaker on topics of interest.
Want to go shad or trout fishing? Come to the Kingfishers meeting and
learn all about catching trout and shad this spring. The Kingfishers are
planning a trout fishing trip (followed by an excellent lunch) at Graves
Mt. Lodge in mid-April, and a shad fishing trip also in
April. The Kingfishers will be volunteering the 2nd Wednesday of
March, June, September, and December at the Blue Ridge Food Bank. For
additional information, call Richard Cook (973-0799) or Bill
Marley (589-3949).
There are a variety of club activities such as day and overnight trips
to local and distant fishing areas. The group maintains a stocked pond in
the county, takes day trips for trout, bass, crappie and shad fishing.
Also, they go on overnight Chesapeake Bay outings for stripers.
We cordially invite Senior Center members to attend meetings to learn
what we are about.
The Kingfishers support Kids Day at Mint Springs Park on
the second Saturday in April and assist in other teaching
activities for children. The club maintains a locker we use to store
fishing equipment for use by Senior Center members. In addition to
equipment that can be borrowed, a library of books and folders on specific
species of fish are maintained for members’ use. The locker is in the
Center’s basement and the key is available at the front
desk.
