Parkinson's Exercise

Mondays from 11:00 a.m.-Noon and Thursdays from 10:45-11:45 a.m.

Anna Mairs will be providing free chair massages (again) on Thursday June 24th during the Parkinson's yoga class. Class will begin at 10:45 am (though Anna will be there at 10:30, if anyone feels inspired to come early) and continue for an hour.

Through yoga, we work with such issues as balance, flexibility, gait, strength, facial expression, articulation, posture, and “functional fitness” like getting up and down from the floor, and in and out of a chair. We also connect and support each other through discussion and the camaraderie of shared experience. Please feel free to drop in and try a class at no charge.

The benefits of yoga for Parkinson's, and the origin of this program are described in an article and Channel 19 video found by clicking here. This program is offered twice a week in partnership with UVA’s Adult Neurology Department and A.P.D.A. I & R Center.  Instructor Shaaron Honeycutt leads participants through various exercises to promote ways of moving and speaking to better cope with the many symptoms of Parkinson's and other neurological diseases.  Bring an exercise mat and wear comfortable clothing. $65 per month.  Open to all.
