"Pinkie Puppet" Makers
The Puppet Ladies
“Pinkie the Puppets” have been in the making for over 50
years. There are 10 volunteers in our sewing group.
Their ages range from 70 to 92. Two volunteers have worked for
over 21 years each. We are cutting, sewing and stuffing from
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Monday morning. The UVA Hospital
Auxiliary furnishes all the materials for making the puppets.
We make 300 puppets a year.
The puppets are packed in clear
plastic bags and tied with ribbon. They are delivered to the
hospital and given to the children while they are waiting to
be admitted.
In May 2003 we started a new project making
Teddy Bears for the Pediatric Emergency Room. By that December
we had made 281 bears. Since then, in addition to our puppets
we have made 150 bears a year. On Halloween and Christmas the
bears are made of holiday materials. Our annual party
with the children is usually in December. We all enjoy being
with the children and our fellowship is getting better
everyday.
We welcome newcomers. Join us for sewing and
good conversation, and make new friends. After most meetings
we go to lunch together in a local cafe or restaurant.
