This club focuses on fun, learning and good times as
we become more familiar with other wine lovers, wine grapes and Virginia
wineries. Our club officers are Jo Ann Perkins, President, and Jean Foss,
Secretary. We have no treasurer as the dues go directly into the programs
budgets to pay expenses. Members of this group plan some off-site
activities between quarterly club business and event meetings at the
Center. When we are not meeting at the Senior Center, we may have special
luncheon/dinner meeting at restaurants or wineries or at a member’s
homes. We also have programs and events to educate ourselves on wine
and wine pairings with food.
This club will help cultivate your senses and an appreciation of wine
or if you are already an expert taster, it will introduce you to some new
wines and other wine lovers. The club will be limited to 60 people and for
2011-2012 and we will keep costs for events as low as possible.
Our business meetings are at 6:30 p.m. followed by the 7 p.m. education
meeting and tasting. Please register at the Senior Center Front Desk for
the wine club monthly meetings.

On Saturday,
May 7th, eight members of the Senior Center Wine Club enjoyed a wonderful
afternoon at the Montpelier Wine Festival. Thanks to Donald Foss, we
had a reserved table under a nice big tent. We could come and go as
we pleased, knowing we had a place to sit and get out of the sun. On
our table was a basket of goodies from some of the local vendors.
The goodies included: two cans of Virginia peanuts; some chocolate candy;
a Monterey Jack cheese bar; a sleeve of crackers; a box of white
chocolate-covered popcorn; two apples, some Rocking Chair mix of cereals
and nuts; a small rum cake; two biscotti sticks; a wine cork, and a bottle
of Cabernet Sauvignon wine from Autumn Hill Vineyards. This basket
was a pleasant surprise.
There were 24 wineries that were offering tastings of their wine at the
festival. Also at the festival were several vendors for those of us
who wanted to shop and there were food stations if you were hungry.
You could hear a band playing in the background. Also you could sit
in on a demonstration on cooking with wine. There was even a place
for kite flying and an aerial demonstration provided by the Wings Over
Washington Kite Club.
The weather was perfect for this wonderful outing. We all had a
good time socializing at our table in the shade and also doing some wine
tasting. We will certainly make this an annual event for the Wine
Club. |
