A Birthday Poem

By Elizabeth T. Spencer

Lovely Lady you teach us gaily; you
Put us through paces
That tells in our faces
As we struggle on through.

We really feel better
When we go by the letter
And do as we’re told to do.

N’e mind if we’re crabby
Or woefully gabby.
It’s just that our aging is showing.

Since today is your birthday
And you are our mainstay;
We’re telling you now
That we’re crowing.

Happy Birthday to You!

Your dumb belles
