A POET’S DILEMMA

by
Marilyn Fabricatore

Again it comes, this midnight ghost

Of many thoughts. It strikes me most

Just as I am about to sleep

And drift into a slumber deep.

Such great ideas flood my mind:

Profound, inspired, delights I find

So worthy of the greatest Muse.

I must get up and write! --- or choose

To stay here in this cozy bed.

I’ll memorize these words instead.

But when I wake at morning’s dawn

My brilliant thoughts have fled –

They’re gone!!
