TAFFYS MOMENT OF FAMEThe dog who owned us when I was a child, had the distinction of having an article written about him which appeared in "The Talk of the Town," a feature of the "New Yorker" magazine. Taffy, a Sealyham terrier, was a short-legged animal with a wagging stump for a tail. This is his story: He was a dog who sneezed quite often and violently, as well, not one sneeze, but a series of explosions. Being so close to the ground, he could never sneeze without hitting his chin with a sharp rap on the floor. As soon as we heard the loud thump, thump, thumps, my mother, my father, my brother and I, would race to the source of the bangs and lift Taffy upright under his front paws until he stopped sneezing. Someone in our circle of family and friends heard the story and thought it so funny, that he sent it to the magazine, where it was duly published. It was Taffys moment of fame, though all he did was keep on sneezing. Constance Tupper © CONSTANCE TUPPER 2003 . |
