PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO CLASS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10 DUE TO YARD SALE. SESSION ONE: Wednesday, February 24 - An Overview of Jefferson's Amazing Life. The foundation for the talks that follow. The life of Thomas Jefferson, plus in-depth discussions on his views regarding slavery and religion. SESSION TWO: Wednesday, March 3 - Jefferson and the American West. The West as viewed by Jefferson and the long forgottenFreeman & Custis Expedition up the Red River into present-day Texas. SESSION THREE: Wednesday, March 17 - Jefferson and Paleontology. Although paleontology was not coined until 1838, twelve years after his death, Jefferson was undoubtedly one of the founders of the science. Here we'll discuss two his forays into this fascinating discipline. SESSION FOUR: Wednesday, March 24: Jefferson and Friendship. Here we'll look at two of Jefferson's most enduring friendships- those with the Italian vinter Filippo Mazzei and of course the Marquis de Lafayette. SESSION FIVE: Wednesday, March 31: Jefferson and Architecture. One of his great loves. Here we'll talk about his architestural legacy and his designs for the structure at the University of Virginia. SESSION SIX: Wednesday, April 7: Thomas Jefferson-Inventor? One of Jefferson's great fascinations was with gadgets, thingamabobs and whirligigs, and he filled Monticello with many! Did Jefferson invent these devices?
